“Biomaterials: From Bench to Bedside” – a Lunch Lecture by Dr. Catarina Ferreira da Silva for Biomedical Science Students

 

On 26th September, 2023, Dr. Catarina Ferreira da Silva, Science Integration Manager at Rousselot, will deliver a lunch lecture to the S.V. Paradoks Association of Biomedical Students at the University of Twente. Her presentation will delve into the realm of biomaterials and offer valuable insights into how to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

 

Dr. Ferreira da Silva, a specialist in translational science, will share her experience and knowledge gained from her work at Rousselot, a global leader in collagen-based solutions. The lecture will give students the chance to hear industry insights from experienced professionals.

 

During her talk, Dr. Ferreira da Silva will focus on the development of collagen-based biomaterials that can replicate the target tissue's composition and mechanical properties, providing cells with the optimal environment to proliferate, differentiate and communicate.

 

For those students who wish to take their research into the clinic, she will also explain the importance of working with biomaterials with specific properties, including quality, purity, regulatory compliance and availability. Choosing the right biomaterial from the very beginning of the research process can help to avoid having to revalidate your research using a new biomaterial ahead of clinical trials – a situation no biomedical researcher wants to encounter on the route to market.
