How is technology used to treat cancer patients? And what is the role of a clinical physicist in radiotherapy?

During this talk, Erik van Dieren, a clinical physicist at Medisch Spectrum Twente, will discuss what it is like to work as a clinical physicist in radiotherapy. He will take you through the development of radiotherapy and explain the various tasks and responsibilities involved in the profession.

Radiotherapy is a field in which technology, physics and medicine converge directly. Using advanced equipment and techniques, the aim is to treat a tumour as precisely as possible whilst sparing healthy tissue as much as possible. This requires not only technical knowledge, but also a focus on safety, quality and the application of new developments in healthcare.

During the lecture, you will gain a better understanding of exactly what a clinical radiotherapy physicist does, what the training programme for clinical radiotherapy physicists entails, and what opportunities this field offers.

The lecture is one of two in a series. His colleague from MST will also give a presentation later on the work of a general clinical physicist.
